The park is divided into two separate sites: the campground and the day-use area. The day-use area with its rocky beaches is a popular swimming and picnic site. Lush forests with large, old trees create a quiet setting for the campground at Mermaid Cove. At low tide, the rocky shoreline often has tidal pools with starfish, sea urchins, small fish and crabs.
Description of Sander Lake Campground:
This is a small 25-site campground located away from the noise of the highway and railroad, featuring a small lake for canoeing & swimming, and hiking/mountain biking trails. Amenities include hot showers, electric hookups, water, sani dump facilities, a covered shelter and games room.
Description of Sandy Island Marine Provincial Park (Osprey Parks Operations Ltd.):
Sandy Island Provincial Marine Park includes Sandy Island - known locally as Tree Island - and the nearby Seal Islets. The park is located off the northern tip of Denman Island and is accessible by boat from Union Bay on Vancouver Island or by foot from Denman Island at low tide. Walk-in camping is allowed, but no facilities are provided. There is no designated camping area; visitors can camp on the beach or at open areas in the bush.

This undeveloped wilderness area is a great place to see wildlife, including whales and other marine mammals and a variety of birds. The park protects old-growth Sitka spruce forests, a fjord and an estuary. The estuary - a sensitive and biologically productive marine ecosystem - supports large numbers of birds, fish and intertidal creatures. Access to this undeveloped park is by boat only. Stuart Lake is one of the largest natural lakes in the province at 90 km long with 270 km of shoreline. The community of Fort St. James is located on the southeast end. The main body of the lake is between 6 to 10 km wide and is road accessible at many locations. The northwestern arm of the lake is narrower, has limited road access, and more of a wilderness feel. This portion of the lake is very scenic with numerous bays, points, and islands. Wildlife viewing, boating, hunting, and angling are popular pursuits in the area. Stuart Lake Marine Park consists of four lakeside sites protected as part of the Stuart-Trembleur-Takla Lakes boating system. These sites provide no facilities, but may offer protected anchorages or sandy beaches. Wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed, but no facilities are provided.

Mountain peaks - some perpetually mantled with snow - dominate the park. Lakes and alpine tarns dot a landscape laced with rivers, creeks and streams. Summer in Strathcona is usually pleasantly warm, while winters are fairly mild except for the higher levels, where heavy snowfalls are the norm. From November through March, snowfalls can be expected on the mountain slopes and alpine plateaus. Snow remains all year on the mountain peaks and may linger into July even at moderate elevations. Summer evenings, as elsewhere in the coastal regions of BC, can be cool and rain can be expected at any time of the year. Two boat-launching ramps are located on Buttle Lake at the Buttle Lake boat launch and the Karst Creek boat launch. Angling can be rewarding on Buttle Lake and on the other lakes and waterways in and near the park. Cutthroat and Rainbow trout are the primary catch. Tributaries to Buttle Lake are closed to angling. The Elk River is open to catch and release fly fishing only.

Description of Strathcona - Westmin Provincial Park:
Aside from mining, this rugged forest environment offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors - particularly hiking and backcountry camping. Routes range from 15-minute walks to more than 8 hour hikes. A short trails lead from the Boliden-Westmin mine to beautiful Upper and Lower Myra Falls – scenic waterfalls located deep in the forest. Other longer trails lead to the lower Thelwood Valley - a great place to see Roosevelt elk and other wildlife - and access the backcountry at Price Creek, Philips Ridge, Tennent Lake and Mount Myra. Wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed around Arnica Lake on the Phillips Ridge Trail. No facilities are provided. Tributaries to Buttle Lake are closed to angling. This includes Thelwood and Myra Creeks.

Description of Stikine River Provincial Park:
Existing in the Stikine River Provincial Park is a geological feature unparalleled in Canada. Eighty kilometres of steep-walled canyon, composed of sedimentary and volcanic rock, has been carved through eons of river erosion. In the bottom of this sometimes 300 m deep chasm flows the wild and unnavigable Stikine River, which varies in width from 200 m to as little as 2 m at a point near the Tanzilla and Stikine confluence. A primitive boat launch is available on the west side of the highway #37 bridge. Fish year-round for a variety of native species including Dolly Varden, Arctic grayling and rainbow trout, or try for Chinook salmon or steelhead during the late summer and fall.

This is a wilderness park containing spectacular scenery and outstanding historical, cultural and spiritual values. It protects the entire Stein River watershed. This is a user-maintained area, with 150 km of hiking trails and routes, four cable crossings, a suspension bridge and several wilderness campsites. The park offers limited opportunities for easy day hikes (primarily in the lower valley) and extensive opportunities for multi-night backpacking trips over moderate to difficult terrain. With limited Ranger and Stein Valley Warden patrols, visitors must be self-sufficient and prepared for all eventualities.

The park offers 240 meters of beach on the lake and 1,000 meters of frontage along the river. The Savona community offers the amenities of a small town. There is a boat launch for car top boats. A public boat launch is located in the town of Savona, a 2 minute drive from the park. Fishing for trout, salmon and of course steelhead is popular.

One of the park's main attractions is the annual run of thousands of Pacific salmon circling in the pool below Stamp Falls before ascending the fish ladders on their way to spawning beds. Lookout points along the river offer excellent views of the salmon fighting their way up the falls and fish ladders. This natural phenomenon occurs every year, starting in late August with sockeye and continuing with coho and Chinook right into December. This park offers 23 vehicle accessible campsites set in a mature forest. A number of these sites overlook the river. Fishing is allowed in Stamp River park, but is closed 200m above & 500m below Stamp Falls from June 15 to November 15. Boundary markers are located on trees along the river.
